Cameron Diaz reveals she “cannot imagine” returning to acting

It has been seven years since Cameron Diaz appeared on the big screen. The 48 year old actress has been on hiatus since the film “Annie” in which she starred as “Miss Hannigan” back in 2014.

This weekend she revealed revealed that becoming a mother had shifted her priorities. Diaz married Good Charlotte singer Benji Madden in 2015. The couple have a one-year-old daughter together, called Raddix.

Appearing on US radio show “Quarantined with Bruce” the Charlie’s Angels star revealed that becoming a mother had shifted her priorities.

“Will I ever make a movie again? I’m not looking to, but will I? I don’t know. I have no idea. Maybe. Never say never, but I couldn’t imagine being a mom now where I’m at as a mother, with my child at her first year, to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child.”

“I just feel so blessed that I get to be here now with my child and, you know, get to be the mother that I get to be,” she said. “It’s such a blessing, it’s completely privileged, and I’m just really, really grateful.”

She continued: ‘And I feel for so many mothers who have to go to work, you know? Whatever they’re doing. I feel so much for them and for their children and for all that.

“I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life. I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films and it’s such a grind.”

The Hollywood star ultimately ‘realised I handed off parts of my life to all these other people, and they were – they took it, you know. And some people did – I had to basically take it back, you know, and take responsibility for my own life.’

Cameron Diaz’s career

Aged 21, Cameron Diaz made her acting debut in The Mask alongside Jim Carrey. The film was one of the highest-grossing films of 1994 and launched the actress as a sex symbol.

In 1998, the actress received her first Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actress category for There’s Something About Mary, in which she played the titular title.

She went on to gain three more Golden Globe nominations; Being John Malkovich (1999), Vanilla Sky (2001), Gangs of New York (2002).

Her accolades also include three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and a New York Film Critics Award.

She would go on to appear in numerous blockbusters, including Charlie’s Angels and Shrek in which she plays Princess Fiona.

Thanks to her Hollywood career, she is estimated to be worth $140 million.

As of 2018, the U.S. domestic box office grosses of Diaz’s films total over US$3 billion, making her the fifth highest-grossing U.S. domestic box office actress.
