HOW has Tory Lanez not been cancelled yet? The update on the Megan Thee Stallion case

Let’s begin with what happened.

In July 2020, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez (who’s real name is Daystar Peterson) allegedly fired four gunshots at Megan Thee Stallion’s feet following an argument inside a car. He was initially arrested and charged for possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, but was released after posting bond for $35,000.

At the beginning it was unclear who had fired the shots, and Tory Lanez did not take responsibility for anything. This led to Megan calling him out on August 21 2020. The Houston rapper shared an emotional Instagram video where she named Tory Lanez as she one who shot her and called him out for planting false stories in the media.

At first Megan, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, claimed she was cut by glass, she claimed she was scared police would start shooting if she said a gun was involved.

“I didn’t tell the police nothing, because I didn’t want us to get in no more trouble than we was about to get in.”

In August, the Los Angeles Times reported that the district attorney’s office was reviewing the possibility of bringing felony assault charges against the 28-year-old Tory Lanez.

Lanez shared his side of the story via a VERY poorly-timed album release, the day after the Breonna Taylor decision. On the opening track, he rapped, “Megan people trying to frame me for a shooting.” The Canadian rapper was resoundingly slammed for using the incident to promote his music. He also raps “Girl, you had the nerve to write that statement on that affidavit, knowing I ain’t do it but I’m coming at my truest.”

In October, Lanez was charged with one felony count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one for carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could face up to 22 years and eight months in prison.

The trial has begun, and since Lanez was running his mouth so much, a judge ruled that the Canadian rapper was barred from speaking publicly about the case and from contacting Megan Thee Stallion in any way. We have two high-profile celebrities named as the defendant and the alleged victim in this case,” the judge said, noting that “the last thing I think anyone wants” is for social media to become part of the evidence in the case”. The motion from Lanez’s team argued that, in their opinion, it was unfair that Megan could use her respective platforms to address the case while he was barred from doing the same.

Now for the sake of full disclosure, Megan’s former friend and personal assistant Kelsey Nicole who was reportedly there the night of the shooting, dropped a diss track aimed at Megan back in November 2020.

She heavily insinuates that not all that her former BFF had told her social media followers about that night was accurate. On her song “Bussin Back,” Kelsey raps, “Couldn’t control your little feelings / Look what d*** is costing you / It was all good yeah about a week ago / Shout out Bobby Shmurda but this b**ch is really tweaking tho / If I was the one with the gun you woulda heard about a murder / Said her back was turned but the girl know who really hurt her.”

But… I think Megan has accused someone of shooting her and I highly doubt she’d say that lightly. Especially since she is currently one of the successful recording artists out there!

She won three awards at this year’s Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist AND so far has two number one records.

So my question is… since #CancelCulture is so prevalent, HOW IS TORY LANEZ STILL RELEASING MUSIC and people are listening to him? And artists such as Chris Brown (but then again he’s not famous for being very pacific towards women is he?) and Jack Harlow are still inviting him for features! This man is on trial for having SHOT a woman FOUR times!

When Chris Brown was accused of hitting Rihanna, it was practically the end of him for a long time. I don’t understand why his music isn’t being boycotted…

Most recently he released his own line of Marijuana.

Anyways, one think I AM glad about is that Megan Thee Stallion’s career is going great. And I hope justice is rightfully served.

Stay on my blog for more updates on the trial. See you soon xx
