The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their second child together, the couple announced on Sunday. The baby will be the younger sibling to the couple’s son Archie Harrison, who will turn 2 on May 6.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” the couple shared in a statement on Valentine’s day 2021.

There are no details yet regarding the baby’s gender.

Meghan and Harry announced their pregnancy news with a black-and-white photo that was taken remotely via iPad by their friend and longtime photographer, Misan Harriman.

The Duchess of Sussex wears a flowing dress by Carolina Herrera that was first made when she was pregnant with Archie. Meghan has a longtime rapport with the brand’s creative director, Wes Gordon.

The news comes after the Duchess of Sussex revealed she had a miscarriage last July. The Duchess of Sussex candidly detailed the “unbearable grief” she endured in a piece written for The New York Times. She recalled feeling a sharp pain in her stomach as she changed son Archie Harrison’s diaper, writing, “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Meghan and Harry, 36, officially stepped down from their role as senior royals last year. Harry and Meghan opened up about enjoying time with baby Archie. The former actress shared, “For us, we’re trying to embrace all of the quality time we get with our son right now and to not miss a single moment of his growth and development, which has been really special.”

The couple has been quarantining in their new home in Montecito after moving to California in mid-March, occasionally making virtual appearances.

Meghan and Harry aren’t the only royals to expand their family. Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie welcomed a baby boy with her husband Jack Brooksbank on Feb. 9.
