Nicki Minaj’s father killed in hit-and-run accident in New York.

Nicki Minaj’s dad Robert Maraj was fatally wounded after being involved in a hit-and-run accident in Mineola village in Nassau County, Long Island, New York, U.S. He was 64.

On Friday evening, Maraj was struck by a vehicle while walking on a road. He was struck by a vehicle around 6 p.m, according to a press release from the Nassau County Police Department. The unidentified vehicle fled the scene of the accident and has not yet been identified by law enforcement.

Maraj was transported to an area hospital and listed in critical condition. Doctors pronounced his death the following day, per the release.

A representative for Ms. Minaj confirmed his death but did not provide further details.

Nicki Minaj was born Onika Tanya Maraj (now she’s added “Petty” to her name as it is her husband’s last name). She was born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1982 and was raised in the Queens borough of New York City. On September 30, 2020, Minaj gave birth to a son.

She’s been nominated for 10 Grammys, won five MTV Video Music Awards and broken the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries by a solo female artist.

It’s unclear what type of relationship Minaj had with her father, but she has been photographed alongside him in recent the years.

This is not the first time tragedy has struck Nicki Minaj’s family.

In July 2011, her cousin Nicholas Telemaque was murdered near his home in Brooklyn, an incident she references in her songs “All Things Go”. In November 2017, Minaj’s brother Jelani was convicted of predatory sexual assault against a childnand endangering the welfare of a child. On January 27, 2020, he was sentenced by Supreme Court Judge Robert McDonald to 25 years to life.
