PSG stars Di Maria and Marquinhos have family homes robbed during game

The family homes of Paris St-Germain players Angel di Maria and Marquinhos were burgled while the French champions played Nantes on Sunday.

Angel Di Maria left his team’s game against Nantes early on Sunday to rush to his home which had been robbed with his family present. Argentina midfielder Di Maria was substituted in the 62nd minute of the 2-1 defeat after being told about the incident.

His teammate Marquinhos also had his parents’ house targeted by intruders during the match.

Marquinhos posted a statement on Instagram that read: “The business representatives of PSG and Brazil’s Marquinhos can confirm that during the match against Nantes, his parents’ home was burgled while his parents were present in the residence but nobody was hurt and everyone is doing well, it was more fear than anything bad. The French authorities have opened an investigation.”

This is not the first time Di Maria has been a victim of a home robbery. The former Manchester United player was the victim of an attempted burglary while at his home in Cheshire in 2015.

While it had first been described as violent by french news outlet RMC, Le Parisien have stressed Di Maria’s family did not hear anything and were in a different part of the house.

Other players to have had a major problem regarding robberies in the last 18 months are Sergio Rico, Thiago Silva and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Di Maria signed a contract extension until 2022 with PSG earlier this week.

He’s made 248 appearances for the reigning Ligue 1 champions, scoring 87 goals and recording 99 assists.

That means he is just four assists behind the all-time record of 103 held by Safet Susic.

Di Maria has won 16 honours during his time in the French capital while also reaching the 2020 Champions League final.
