Rappers saying sh** trying to get attention – Meek Mill and DaBaby

Meek Mill

Do you know who Meek Mill is? Exactly… personally I only know him as Nicki Minaj’s abusive ex-boyfriend. It baffles me how numerous Hip Hop artists can say really disrespectful things, in an attempt to create a buzz. The worse part is that it works! Let me tell you what happened.

First of all honestly who is Meek Mill? His real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, he was born in May 1987 in Philadelphia. His most successful single is “Going Bad” also featuring Drake released in 2018, which peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In November 2017, he was sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating parole and served five months at before being released while his trial continues. In August 2019, a documentary series about his battle with the criminal justice system “Free Meek” was released on Amazon Prime Video.

Basically for the moment let’s just say he’s not Drake or Eminem #Sarcasm. So why is he in the news?

Last week a Meek Mill song was leaked with a lyrics clearly mentioning the late great Lakers NBA player Kobe Bryant. The lyric goes as follows: “”This bitch I’m f—kin’ always tell me that she love but she ain’t ever showed me/ Yeah, and if I ever lack, I’m goin’ out with my chopper, it be another Kobe.” He is referring to the helicopter crash that killed the NBA legend.

Bryant’s widow Vanessa Bryant responded to the lyric and I must admit I would not have been as polite as her.

The worst part is look at his response to Vanessa Bryant!

Meek tweeted “I’m going back savage in this s–t … f#%k ya feelings!” Shortly after that, he tweeted “Ion trust people gotta play it raw ……”

Many individuals responded to these tweets by asking the 33-year-old rapper to apologise to Vanessa.

So all the looking thug-ish and badass is in public, but when you want to be human and apologise it is in private? Okay, I hope at least he was sincere, since he clearly used her dead husband’s name to create buzz.

Now DaBaby is a much more famous and successful rapper than Meek Mill, I am surprised he would stoop low in a lyric to create buzz.

His real name is Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, he was born in 1991 in Charlotte, North Carolina. DaBaby rose to mainstream prominence in 2019. His last two studio albums have been hugely successful, spawning the singles “Suge”,”Bop” and “Rockstar” featuring Roddy Rich, which spent seven non-consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

So why is he in the news?

A few days ago, DaBaby released a new song “Beatbox Freestyle” that seemingly dissed children’s celebrity entertainer JoJo Siwa.

The lyrics goes “N—-, you a b—-/ JoJo Siwa, b—-/ She let the wrong n—- get rich,” DaBaby rhymes on the track. In the “Beatbox” video, he holds up a photo of a smiling Siwa.

It turns out DaBaby was just using her name in a play on words. ET explains that since DaBaby’s real name is Jonathan, and he uses “Siwa” as a twist on “See why,” him rapping “JoJo Siwa” is shorthand for “Jonathan see why.” Get it?

DaBaby himself seemed to suggest this was the case, too, using “Siwa” in a similar way in a Tweet, after the initial uproar took place.

DaBaby added, “Y’all MFs sick lol. Y’all ok w/ that child being tricked into thinking I got a problem with her, WE F— WIT YOU JOJO.”

All in all, seems like it was probably a misunderstanding. But between us… I am sure he did this on purpose to get people talking, and it worked… just like it did for Meek Mill. All of this is carefully calculated and they all know what they’re doing.
